There is a range of accommodation suited for shorter stays on Rona.  Transport to the island can be provided by the estate launch, the MV Rona, from the neighbouring island of Raasay, making it a perfect way for lovers of the great outdoors to combine a holiday on both islands.

Private ferry operators will also be offering daily services from Portree from March to October 2009.

the rona bunkhouse
The Rona bunkhouse is wonderfully situated in a wee wood-lined bothy right at the water's edge on the shore overlooking Big Harbour.  It is thought to be where Janet Mackenzie lit a lamp in the window to warn of the rocks at the harbour entrance - the first Rona light.

It now provides basic but cosy accommodation for shorter breaks on Rona. Inside are bunks, basic kitchen facilities, dining/seating area and a wood-burning stove.  There's room for additional camping mats on the floor for groups of more than four, and an open shed for hanging kayaking gear.

Wash, laundry and toilet facilities are at Rona Lodge a 100 metres or so away.  The accommodation costs start from £15 per person per night with discounts for larger groups.  Hot showers and bedding are available for an additional nightly charge.

bed & breakfast
Island manager Bill Cowie offers occasional bed and breakfast at the only permanent residence on the island, Rona Lodge.  Rona Lodge is situated a couple of minute's walk from the pier, overlooking Big Harbour.  A large double room with sea views is available, or a small twin.

camping
There are designated camping areas in the sheltered woodland behind the bothy at Big Harbour - again with use of the Rona Lodge facilities for an additional charge.  Whilst wild camping is allowed,  since many areas on the island might be in sight or sound of the island holiday cottage business or have impact on the farm stock, we do prefer you to use the designated areas.

No camp fires are allowed anywhere on the island.  The volatile oils in heather, which covers most of the island, make it highly flammable even when very wet. Our remote location puts us at a further disadvantage for the fire emergency services.
