The MV Rona is a 7m aluminium voe boat with forward cabin - ideal for negotiating the rocky shores of the island. Skippered by Bill Cowie, the island manager, the MV Rona is fully MCA coded and licensed, equipped and insured to carry up to 6 passengers.
Bill offers wildlife or fishing trips during your stay from £10 per person based on six passengers sharing. A wonderful way to spend an hour or two during your holiday.
big harbour tour
Available in most (but not all) weather, a slow tour exploring the coves in
Big Harbour where you may see seals, herons and if lucky the elusive otter
or sea eagle! Or help Bill lift a creel to see what's inside - you may
get a crab for tea!
big harbour/dhu chamas and caol rona
A trip to the south end of the island via Dhu Chamas to see the deep green
waters and amazing cliff formations where peregrines nest. Sail to the
narrows of Caol Rona, the waters that separate Rona and Raasay to view An
Tempuil at the southern tip of the island. In the summer and early
autumn, basking sharks are often spotted in these waters as well as
porpoises, dolphins, minke whales and numerous sea birds.
dry harbour/seal bay
View your cottages from the sea then travel north to see where the curious
seals live in the bay beneath the site of the Danish Princess' grave. In the
summer and early autumn, basking sharks are often spotted in these waters as
well as porpoises, dolphins, minke whales and numerous sea birds.
whale/dolphin/basking shark watch
If you are especially interested, let Bill know and he will contact you
during your week if any of these species are spotted in the vicinity and
will advise of the possibilities.
rona-raasay ferry service
A service allowing more flexible arrangements travelling to Rona for short
breaks, or day trips to Raasay.
Please e-mail ronalodge@isleofrona.com or call Bill on 07831 293 963 to enquire or make arrangements for any of the above.
