We are pleased to announce that an Isle of Rona tartan is now available for sale.
The beautiful and contemporary tartan design is by internationally acclaimed Danish artist Per Kirkeby. Having completed a masters degree in arctic geology, Kirkeby's great interests are geology and nature which play a crucial role in his work. The tartan design represents the colours and ambience of Rona and its geological structure and vegetation, sky and sea. The banner photograph on our home page shows how appropriate the design is in capturing Rona's mood and the colours form the basis of our new website design.
The tartan is woven for us by Locharron weavers and has been registered by the International Tartan authority as an original design. The tartan has successfully been made into a number of clothing items: kilts, skirts and trousers and is also a wonderful furnishing fabric. The pure woollen tartan costs £43 per metre.
