big Harbour (acairseid mhor)
A safe mooring is provided in Big Harbour at a charge of £10 per
night. Please phone 07831 293 963 to reserve, or call at the Lodge on
arrival to check availability.
A pontoon and jetty is provided for safer disembarking and embarking for Estate staff and visitors to the Estate business, and holiday cottages. Visitors are then requested to move to anchor. Dinghy tie up is permitted, please leave the east side clear for ferry use. Vessels wishing to use the pontoon for longer periods should call ' Rona Lodge' on the VHF or call at the Lodge.
Please be aware of the pontoon mooring buoys, marking the mooring chains which lie between the buoys and the pontoon, when laying anchors.
facilitiesBothy accommodation with bunks, wood-burning stove & basic kitchen facilities, is available with use of the wash facilities at Rona Lodge from £10 per night. One Shower and toilet plus wash-machine and dryer available at Rona Lodge. Charges apply. Fresh water at the pier, supply from the Rona Lodge water tank, filtered and UV treated, but should be boiled before use as drinking water. communications
VHF radio, call sign ‘Rona Lodge’ on channel: 12/16 Good VHF coverage is available from Stornoway Coastguard from aerials located on Skye. Mobile telephone coverage is good but there are some 'black spots'. Best observed provider is Vodafone. tides
The harbour can be used normally at all states of the tide, although the entrance can be very shallow. Use good practice and check before arrival!
